Getting the job done - no matter what
Planning, organizing and hosting a major event is no small feat. No matter how good your script is (and how many years of experience and expertise have gone into drafting it), or how good your team is, at any point, you are likely to be confronted with unforeseen circumstances, setbacks or events beyond your control. When that happens, it is important that you have partners that you can depend on, that you can trust to get the job done no matter what.
Premium event structures supplier Losberger De Boer demonstrated just that, when continuously changing Covid-restrictions made life very difficult for all the professionals working hard to host the Barcelona ATP Tennis Tournament. Or when high-end hospitality buildings of unprecedented size had to be built within a very short timeframe at the 24 hours races at Le Mans.
Barcelona Open Banco Sabadell, ATP TennisTournament, 2021
It’s safe to say that the road leading up to the 2021 edition of the Barcelona Open ATP Tournament, was a bumpy one. Event planning, ticket sales and construction were severely impacted by continuously changing Covid-19 restrictions, and the constant uncertainty about in what form the event could be held (if at all).
Even in the months leading up to the event, regulations and restrictions changed several times. In the end, the total capacity of the event and all accommodations, including the VIP hospitality building, was reduced to less than 30% compared to previous editions.
As one of the main partners for event organizer Tennium, Losberger De Boer was committed to making sure that the event could be held no matter the final capacity. The event specialist ended up delivering a 2000m² VIP building, with an adapted and highly flexible design, that would allow for changes in the internal layout and partitions close to and even during the tournament.
The player’s restaurant, hospitality terrace, and VIP restaurant were combined in one flexible, all-in-one, yet still stunning building. Thanks to the combined expertise and drive of Tennium, Losberger De Boer and a host of other suppliers, as well as the high level of trust the event organizers dared place in their event building supplier, the Barcelona Open 2021 could return with world-class tennis matches in front of an actual crowd of tennis fans, dignitaries, and special guests.
“Throughout the project, Losberger De Boer gave us excellent advice and guidance”
Maria Rosa Cruells, General Director of the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona, was responsible for the event’s infrastructure on site. “Losberger De Boer are highly committed and during this pandemic year they have continuously adapted to all the changes we requested, so that the tournament could be held with the maximum amount of security and preventive measures, as the authorities demanded”, she says. “Throughout the project, they have given us excellent advice and guidance, and in the end, they were even able to deliver an exclusive VIP club within the current restrictive regulations. They have been excellent.”
24h Le Mans, 2019
British car brand Aston Martin utilized a three-story hospitality accommodation by Losberger De Boer and iEvent to make their presence known at the famous 24H Le Mans. With so many big brands in one location, it's not easy to stand out. Aston Martin succeeded.
In order to give Aston Martin the exposure that matches the brand's stature, an eye-catching, three-story hospitality accommodation was built, the company’s first ever triple-decker at Le Mans. The structure was tailor-made to create the ultimate brand experience and even included a cinema space. The pavilion combined the distinctive look and feel of the brand house style with an outstanding hospitality area, including additional terraces at both the entrance and race trackside. Aston Martin, in turn, took advantage of the many 'branding opportunities' that the structure offers by having the entire exterior executed in the brand house style.
‘Every part had to be in the right place, at the right time’
The real challenge for Losberger De Boer, however, was not designing the structure, but making sure everything could be built within a very short time, especially since the company had to build numerous large, tailor-made structures at the 2019 Le Mans complex.
“The logistics side proved to be the biggest challenge we faced during this project”, says Francis Scholten, Managing Director International Projects at Losberger De Boer. "Our structures were spread out over an immense area, where a lot of work had to be done by an enormous amount of suppliers. Moreover, everything had to be done within a few days. Excellent preparation was crucial, because every part had to be in the right place at the right time." Within eight days, approximately 9 trucks full of material were handled and assembled while taking the strictest international safety standards into account, and causing as little disruption as possible to the surrounding build sites.
The 2019 24h Le Mans was not the first collaboration between iEvents and Losberger De Boer, and for good reason. “iEvent creates unique moments during major events”, says Lewis Ledouit, Communication Manager at iEvent. “To do this, we need to work with trusted partners, that are able to bring our creative ideas to life. That's why we work with Losberger De Boer, to be able to rely on their know-how.”
