A high-tech sports studio for European Championship coverage
German network ZDF broadcasts the European Championship 2020 from a temporary,
900 m² TV Studio built by Losberger De Boer.
The facility, which is filled with state-of-the-art technology, is not located on the network’s main site, but near the transmitter location in Mainz.
Designed for and dedicated to Euro 2020
Affectionately called the "Sportstudio Arena" by ZDF, the temporary TV Studio is the broadcaster's dedicated venue for covering this year's European Football Championship, an event watched by millions of Germans each day. The mobile studio offers space for up to 200 spectators and allows the network to use technical innovations such as an LED floor and 3D animations. The temporary broadcast location is designed to do one thing above all: capture the special atmosphere from the stadiums in the best possible way and deliver it directly to football fans’ homes.
Increased studio capacity
Thomas Fuhrmann, Head of Sports at ZDF, explains how the use of mobile space solutions as a film studio came about: "There was not enough capacity on the ZDF site because all the studios are completely full. That's why we built the temporary Sportstudio arena."
The mobile building on the Lerchenberg in Mainz consists of a 15 x 10 m Losberger De Boer Kubo and a 25 m x 30 m Delta Vista, which were extensively covered with branded fabric. From here, hosts Katrin Müller-Hohenstein and Jochen Breyer take turns guiding the whole of Germany through the European Championship match days.
