St Clere's School

New Classrooms for St Cleres School in Response to the RAAC Crisis.

Like many schools across the UK, St Cleres were informed by the DfE on the last day of the summer term that they had RAAC and would have to close their main building. This resulted in 40 of their main teaching spaces being closed and forced the school to deliver remote learning while they found a solution.

Sharon Jenner, Executive Headteacher from The Osbourne Cooperative Trust said:

“It was very disruptive for the education for all the students, we therefore had to try and find a solution. We looked at some of the solutions that Losberger De Boer had already placed, and they’ve offered us a brilliant solution here on the school site.”

After looking at some of the other schools which had been built in response to the RAAC crisis, we worked closely with the team at St Cleres and The Osbourne Trust to come up with a semi-permanent solution that they could use for a few years while the main school building was out of action.

“One of the problems that did arise quite early on was that the area we were building on was never specifically designed or had the intention of having any buildings on.

We worked very closely with the school and The Osbourne Trust to find out what they had currently in placer and how we were going to combine what we were providing into some of these areas”.

- Richard Treml, Project Manager, Losberger De Boer

The Solution

We created 3 buildings using our Delta structures to give the school a number of classrooms, offices, break out spaces and a large, acoustically fitted multi-purpose hall

“We’ve got 3 buildings giving us 26 classrooms and a large break out space that is going to enable us to bring all of the students back in to face-to-face education.”

- Sharon Jenner

Unique Features of the Project

Losberger De Boer Thermal Acoustic System (TAS)™️

Our TAS was installed in the multi-purpose hall space to ensure the room's acoustics were suitable for assemblies and noise generated from sports activities was contained to this hall specifically. Secondly, the system doubles as a thermal lining, keeping the room at a suitable temperature, whether in the warm summer or cold winter months.

Tarmac roads and pathways

The finished project boasted tarmac roads and paths to give the school easy access to the buildings and create a more permanent, ‘finished’ look and feel to the campus.

St. Cleres was one of many schools built by our teams in response to the RAAC crisis, and the solution created has enabled the school to bring all the students back in for face-to-face learning with minimal disruption

There has since been an update that the original school building will need to be demolished and rebuilt completely, so our semi-permanent solution will be in use for a few years while the school rebuild the campus.

The Delta structure is one of our best structures for long-term use, for example, our UK HQ offices are in a Delta structure which we have been using for the past 20 years.

Our Managing Director, Mical De Boer said:

“We are very proud to deliver the solution for the RAAC crisis at speed, with creativity and commitment to the schools.”
